There are reports linking us to Kyle Lafferty. after all the promising Bamford-Rhodes-Hooper talk, underwhelming to say the least

1.) 21 Jul 2015 21:17:27
Was more hoping for ruud boymans.

2.) 22 Jul 2015 12:55:23
I'm as excited and optimistic as anyone, but a young lad with promise, a big lad with a decent touch who couldn't hit a cows bum with a banjo, a likeable hard working jock, and the new Wayne Rooney from a country I can't remember, do they really make a strong strike force? Its a funny old game though and hope to be wrong.

Maybe my half full glass is just topped up with realism but the devil of doubt sits on my shoulder warning me that I've seen and heard it all before.

3.) 22 Jul 2015 23:08:01
Let's sit back and comfortably watch another play off failure this up and coming season?

4.) 23 Jul 2015 01:33:31
I seriously hope we don't sign Kyle Lafferty there is no way he is any better than what we already have we need a proven Goal Scorer. I can't see us buying a big money striker though because all the Strikers we've enquired about have all been on loan.

5.) 23 Jul 2015 14:11:45
We still thin on the squad mind. Think Lafferty would be not a bad bench warmer and would get a goal or 2 when needed.

6.) 23 Jul 2015 20:21:21
David Nugent latest name doing the rounds

15 Jul 2015 02:17:41
read that we are looking at Ben Marshall. not sure how much he is valued at?

1.) 15 Jul 2015 07:56:20
Marshall was in the star 'distancing himself' last week. So not sure about this one.

2.) 15 Jul 2015 08:05:51
Sure I read somewhere the other day he dismissed coming back. Be nice if he does though

3.) 15 Jul 2015 08:21:56
Ben Marshall has already distanced himself from the deal. He himself has said that every year he seems linked to us but nothing materialises. With no formal approach made. I doubt this one but I would love it to be true. UTO

4.) 15 Jul 2015 10:38:04
Looks like Brighton are in for him now. a good player for us in league 1 but at championship level he has been hit and miss.

5.) 15 Jul 2015 13:32:53
According to reports, Brighton have had a £1.5 million bid rejected.

6.) 15 Jul 2015 15:23:29
I haven't made a formal approach .

{Ed001's Note - did you forget your bow tie when you chatted him up then?}

7.) 15 Jul 2015 19:59:05
Well stop ponsing about Brighton and get some money on the table!!

8.) 15 Jul 2015 20:42:38
He's due at my GPs first thing tomorrow for a health check. have agreed the deal in principal, all being well my mrs will unveil him outside our house at 2ish.

9.) 15 Jul 2015 22:03:50
Got a pier down there?
Suggest you treat him to a stick of Brighton Rock and some candy floss.
He'll love it - been stuck over "the hills" for too long , and the pier in Wigan ain't got a sea view!

10.) 16 Jul 2015 13:30:50
"Brighton Rock" has other meanings down here. I'll offer him some, don't know how he'll take it.

or should I say buy a couple of the best sweets in the shop, & not end up with more what we already have (& don't need any more of)

02 Sep 2015 05:12:18
sweet shop closed for 4 months. when you're spoilt for choice, u can't think straight. please ground glen next time & send me, I'll bring back a bagful of the tastiest treats for everyone

31 Aug 2015 17:01:39
kinda unrelated but vossen at burnley & fredericks at bristol c both left a day short of deadline day after just 1 month at their clubs. contracts don't mean nothing nowsadays

06 Aug 2015 04:58:29
I've got cause for some quiet optimism now, altho the fabled 20-goal legend remains a myth at Hillsborough

1.) 06 Aug 2015 09:16:11
Between 5 strikers, Matthias and sogou have we not got enough goals between them.

Plus, they may already be here with different tictacs being used. 451 isn't going to result loads of goals, playing 442 or 433 will give more opportunities.

2.) 06 Aug 2015 10:01:43
If we get better quality ball into the box we might already have a 20 goal striker. I have said before if we can keep a tight defence we only need another 20 to 25 goals more than last season from the team to be in the play offs. Plus we need a better return than 5 home wins, this might happen if we set up at home to attack from the outset.Any way not long now to see who CC picks and how we perform.

3.) 06 Aug 2015 13:46:08
I agree with Lincoln, there is enough quality in the side now to create far more and better chances than we did last season. I know we have brought a few in from abroad who are "unproven" in this League , but they are all proven quality footballers. If they have the desire they will do the job for us, and if they don't show the desire they will be moved on and replaced.
With the style of football we are going to be playing , simply because the Chairman has demanded it , there will be far more chances and goals in the team than there has been and inevitably they will be shared around.
As for the 20 goal striker that everybody keeps on about all the time , you can't have one at the start of the season you can only have one at the end! At the end of the season we might have one or two, only time will tell!
Buy one? - Just because Joe Netbulger got 22goals for Melchester Rovers last season doesn't mean he'll do the same in our team with other players around him. e.g. £50m for Torres with class players around him - can't fail can he?
Some will remember ManUtd went all of 20yrs without having a 20goal striker and they didn't do too bad! You can be very successful without one?
What would you rather have - one player scoring 20goals or four players who get 10+ goals apiece. Plus if one of your 10goal players gets injured at start of season there's still 30+ goals there, if your 20 goal man gets injured - you know the answer!
It doesn't matter who gets a winning goal - so long as somebody does!

4.) 06 Aug 2015 15:02:41
Took the words out of my mouth howler.!!

5.) 06 Aug 2015 15:03:22
Watford brought in foreign players, everyone said they wouldn't stand up to the Championship and look where they are.

6.) 06 Aug 2015 17:53:27
Howler: did you just ask would you rather have 40 goals or 20 goals??

7.) 06 Aug 2015 19:09:40
You could see it that way if you want to Des? But I think even I could answer that one! No that's obviously not what I'm saying.
What I'm really saying is why the obsession with "20goals"?
What if your "20goal man" only gets 19goals , has he failed?
If you have a few regular goalscorers spread through the team but none of them score 20 goals does it really matter?
We only scored 43 goals last season if we get double that, 86goals, this season but no one player gets 20 goals does it matter?
Surely the only thing that matters is "somebody" gets the winning goal?
Hope that's cleared that up for you? UTO!

8.) 06 Aug 2015 21:52:52
Come on howler!! Over defensive response there. I agree with the post - will avoid the banter in the future.

9.) 07 Aug 2015 03:41:50
pls keep on banter deswaddle! WAWAWAW!

i'd definitely be happy if all our strikers can reach double figures, our wingers chip in with that fair share, and bus & may come good. UTO!

10.) 07 Aug 2015 07:36:55
I don't see your "over defensive" comments Des, I just took the trouble to try and explain fully because I thought you had genuinely misunderstood? Read your response again?
Have to make your "banter" more obvious next time Des

11.) 07 Aug 2015 08:37:32
I personally would like to sign this Joe Netbulger Howler do you think we could get him on season loan lol

12.) 07 Aug 2015 16:44:22
They got him on a cracking contract at Melchester Rovers, Cams Grandad, I don't know if even DC could afford him! (LOL)

31 Jul 2015 00:46:38
Rudy Gestede undergoing medical at villa. if so, rovers may not let Rhodes leave. also, seems palace r willing to sell Murray. he'll b good bargain if we can get him cheaply.

1.) 31 Jul 2015 08:09:42
Murray is going to Bournemouth.

or perhaps the categories are purely a business tactic, & have nothing to do with the quality of games at all
